Salute To The Sun
Price range: £59.00 through £99.00
I practice this often when I need physical movement to help quieten the mind, start the day or just to get the energy moving. I love the colours that match both the beach setting and the mood.
Description
The Sun represents the physical and spiritual heart of the world. We salute the Sun to give thanks for a new day filled with life-giving light and sustenance. It can be a complete practice; the poses lengthen and strengthen, flex and extend many of the main muscles of the body while distributing the prana (breath) flow throughout the system.
The sequence awakens the energy of the Inner Sun that lays dormant in our navel centre, where the third chakra – solar plexus is situated. It warms the body and cultivates inner fire. It’s a basic staple in the yogic world. Period. It quickens the blood while calming the mind.
Sun Salutations serve as meditation in movement, reducing depression, anxiety and stress while building mental focus, concentration and deep breathing. They link movement with breath. We experience how the extension of the spine relates to the pranic pattern of the inhale and how the exhalation’s correlates to the folding and deepening into a posture.
So here the Salute to the Sun is quite literally at the beach grounding the physical body on the sand and physically heading towards the sun with flowing physical movement.
I practice this often when I need physical movement to help quieten the mind, start the day or just to get the energy moving. I love the colours that match both the beach setting and the mood.
At the time I painted it I had taken several trips to Ocean Grove, Victoria – a little town on the coast just south of Geelong. I stayed with a friend in a cabin at the caravan park there. Just over the sand dunes was the beach. Here I felt so much part of the universe and where I had a long weekend of sun salutes, meditations, good company, food and grounding.
